Thyroid antibodies
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ located in the neck and is one of the largest endocrine glands. The thyroid controls the rate at which the body uses energy reserves, produces proteins, and controls how sensitive the body is to other hormones. It achieves this through the production and release of complex thyroid hormones, mainly thyroxine and triiodothyronine.
An underactive thyroid results in Hypothyroidism, caused by among other things autoimmune disease and radiation with symptoms including fatigue, weakness and depression whereas an overactive gland results in Hyperthyroidism, usually caused by an autoimmune disorder known as Graves' disease resulting in nervousness, anxiety, irritability and swelling caused by the production of too much thyroxine.
Thyroid antibody testing is primarily ordered to help diagnose an autoimmune thyroid disease and to distinguish it from other forms of thyroid dysfunction. It may be ordered to help investigate the cause of a goiter or other signs and symptoms associated with low or high thyroid hormone levels.
Fitzgerald Industries offers a range of Thyroid antibodies and antigens for research and further manufacture. Our high quality thyroid antibodies are the ideal choice for procedures such as ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, SDS-PAGE, Immunofluorescence, Western Blot and more. We also list a comprehensive selection of thyroid antibody pairs for assay development in sandwich immunoassays which are outlined below:

Some of our most popular thyroid antibodies include:
Thyroxine antibody (or T4 antibody): Thyroxine controls the rate of various metabolic processes in the body and influences physical development; it is an important indicator of thyroid function.
Thyroid Peroxidase antibody: Thyroid peroxidase is a frequent epitope of autoantibodies in autoimmune thyroid disease; this is most commonly associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This thyroid peroxidase antibody is ideally suited for ELISA and other immunoassays as well as western Blot.
Thyroglobulin antibody: Thyroglobulin is an important protein used by the thyroid gland to produce the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), aberrant levels are a common symptom of thyroid disease. This thyroglobulin antibody is perfect for ELISA and other Immunoassays.
TSH antibody: TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine and triiodothyronine which stimulates the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body. It is one of the most important thyroid hormones and another common indicator of thyroid function. This thyroid stimulating hormone antibody is also rated for use in ELISA and immunoassays.
TTF1 antibody: Thyroid transcription factor or TTF1 regulates transcription of genes specific for the thyroid, lung, and diencephalon. It is used in pathology as a marker to determine if a tumor arises from the lung or thyroid gland. This TTF1 antibody is recommended for use in Immunocytochemistry and Immunofluorescence.
