Akt antibody

Akt antibodies also known as Protein Kinase B antibodies or PKB antibodies are important for studying the serine/threonine protein kinase activity involved in the regulation of several cellular processes including metabolism, proliferation, cell survival, growth, angiogenesis and tumor formation. Akt achieves this through the serine and/or threonine phosphorylation of a range of downstream substrates. Akt is fully activated by phosphorylation at two key sites, Ser308 and Thr478.

Akt is made up of 3 family members. Akt1 antibodies (Akt antibodies) are used to examine regulation of apoptopic pathways through inhibition. Akt1 is also a key signalling protein in the cellular pathways in skeletal muscle and general tissue growth. Since it can block apoptosis, and thereby promote cell survival, Akt1 has been implicated as a major factor in many types of cancer. Akt2 antibodies are used to study the Insulin signalling pathway. It is required to induce glucose transport through interaction with the insulin receptor pathway. Akt3 antibodies are used to define the less understood function of Akt3 which is believed to play a role in neural development.
