General Information
| Biological Significance | Adenovirus, a DNA virus, was first isolated in the 1950s in adenoid tissue–derived cell cultures. Adenoviruses are now known to be a common cause of asymptomatic respiratory tract infection that produces in vitro cytolysis in these tissues. Adenovirus 1 and 2 are common causes of respiratory infections in dogs. |

| Implications in Disease | CAV-2 is one of the potential causes of kennel cough in dogs. Core vaccines for dogs include attenuated live CAV-2, which produces immunity to CAV-1 and CAV-2. |
