General Information
Biological Significance
Collagenase is an enzyme which breaks the peptide bonds in collagen. Collagen is produced through the cleavage of pro-collagen by collagenase following its secretion from the cell. Collagenase enzymes assist in the destruction of extracellular structures in the pathogenesis of bacterial such as Clostridium.
