Usage & Assay Information
| Usage Recommendations | Most steroids dissolve in organic solvents (eg. DMSO, THF, Acetone, Acetonitrile), however researchers should follow known or published procedures for optimal solvency. If an oil-based solution is required, we recommend a surfactant such as Freund’s Adjuvant following initial dilution with organic solvent. For use in vivo, refer to Mathis et al (1994) Psychopharmacology 116:210-206. For further information, please contact us at [email protected] |

General Information
| Biological Significance | Cortisol (hydrocortisone) is a steroid hormone, or glucocorticoid, produced by the adrenal gland. It is released in response to stress and a low level of blood glucocorticoids. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis; suppress the immune system; and aid in fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. |
