General Information
| Biological Significance | Product Uses: Purified Recombinant Hepatitis C Virus NS3 protein for use in ELISA, SDS-PAGE and Western Blot. Biological Significance: Nonstructural protein 3 (NS3), also known as p-70, is a viral nonstructural protein that is 70 kDa cleavage product of the hepatitis C virus polyprotein. It acts as a serine protease. The NS3 serine proteinase (NS3P) is a non-structural hepatitis C protein responsible for proteolytic processing of other non-structural proteins; because of this, it is also the most extensively studied protein of the Hepatitis C genome. It is responsible for proteolytic processing of the entire downstream region of the HC polyprotein, catalyzing cleavage at multiple sites to release the mature NS3 protein. Expression: NS3 expression is a critical marker of Hepatitis C infection. Expression of NS3 leads to induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and normal T-cells. Tissue and Cell Localization: NS3 is mainly found in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane of cells during Hepatitis C infection. Implications in Disease: Serine protease inhibitors targeting NS3 such as oceprevir and telaprevir have proven to be highly effective HIV treatments. Sequence Information: The C-terminal domain of the hepatitis C virus NS3 protein contains an RNA helicase activity. Post-Translational Modifications: NS3 is phosphorylated at the NS4A site.
