General Information
| Biological Significance | IgE is typically the least abundant isotype in human blood and only exists in mammals. IgE functions in allergic conditions, playing an essential role in type I hypersensitivity, such as allergic asthma, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, food allergies, and some types of chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis. IgE also plays a key role in anaphylactic reactions to certain drugs, bee stings, and antigen preparations used in desensitization immunotherapy. |
