General Information
Biological Significance
Interferon gamma is a solubledimerized cytokine and isthe only member of the type II class of interferons. IFN gamma is synthesized as a precursor protein of 166 amino acids, whichincludes a secretory signal sequence of 23 amino acids. There are at least six known variants of IFN gamma each with different lengths of the carboxyterminal ends. IFN-gamma has antiviral and antiparasitic propertices and also inhibits the proliferation of a number of normal and transformed cells.
