Immunoglobulins (or Ig’s) are approximately 150 kDa globular Y-shaped plasma proteins, produced by B-cells that are used by the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign objects such as bacteria and viruses. Essentially, immunoglobulins are antibodies which bind to a unique part of an antigen called an epitope. The basic functional unit of each antibody is an immunoglobulin (Ig) monomer (containing only one Ig unit); secreted antibodies can also be dimeric with two Ig units as with IgA, or tetrameric with five Ig units like mammalian IgM.
In research, purified non-immune immunoglobulins are used in many applications. They are most commonly used as controls for immunoassays to measure any non-specific binding due to the presence of an immunoglobulin itself rather than the epitope that a targeted immunoglobulin (antibody). They are often referred to as isotype controls for assays such as Flow Cytometry but they can be used in a range of assays such as ELISA, western blotting and IHC as controls, or in diluted form as a blocking reagent.
Fitzgerald Industries offers a huge range of immunoglobulins from a full selection of avian and mammalian host species. These purified immunoglobulins namely, IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD, and IgE, are also available in specific forms and we offer a huge range of alpha, beta and gamma Ig isotypes, conjugated immunoglobulins such as fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and biotin conjugates, Fc, Fab and Fab2 fragments and heavy, light, gamma and lambda chains from multiple species. Our immunoglobulins are available to buy in bulk quantities or smaller titers. Some of our most popular and top selling immunoglobulins are Mouse IgG, Rabbit IgG, Human IgG and Chicken IgY.
