IgM is the first antibody produced during an immune response and is responsible for agglutination and cytolytic reactions. IgM is effective in agglutination due to the fact that its pentameric structure gives it 10 free antigen binding sites, it is found in lymph fluid and the blood and is a very effective neutralizing agent in the early stages of disease as well as playing a vital role in complement activation. IgM is also a useful diagnostic immunoglobulin as IgM antibodies in a patient's serum are an indicator of recent infection.
IgM is present on B cells and its main function is the control of B-cell activation, it is also the primary antibody against A and B antigens on red blood cells and responsible for the blood-clotting reaction during blood-transfusion from wrong donors.
Fitzgerald Industries offers a wide range of IgM antibodies for research and diagnostic use. We have IgM antibodies raised in all commonly used host animals and conjugated to commonly used tags such as biotin, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), alkaline phosphate and others.
Some of our most popular IgM antibodies include:
Mouse anti Rat IgM for use in ELISA and Western blotting. This monoclonal antibody has been puriifed by Protein A Chromatography and is supplied in PBS with usage instructions.
Mouse anti Human IgM is our most popular Human IgM antibody and is used by many of our customers in ELISA assays. It is specific for the Fab fragments of Human IgM.
Goat anti Monkey IgM (FITC) conjugated antibody is a robust antibody for use in ELISA, immunofluorescence and FACS assays. It is supplied in a lyohilized format and can be reconstituted to the desired concentration of the user.
Goat anti Human IgM (Fab'2) is excellent in ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting. This polyclonal anti Human IgM is specific for the Fab'2 fragements of Human IgM and is affinity purified for improved specificity.
