Immunohistochemical staining using Tau antibody (70R-10637)

Tissue section through the hippocampus of a patient diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Note the high concentrations of intracellular tau immunoreactivity in pyamidal neurons (brown), as well as lower concentrations of reaction product in the neuropil. The slide was counterstained with hemotoxylin. Picture courtesy of Dr. Randy Woltjer, Oregon Health & Sciences University.

General Information

Biological Significance Tau proteins belong to the family of microtubule-associated proteins. They are mainly expressed in neurons where they play an important role in the assembly of tubulin monomers into microtubules to constitute the neuronal microtubules network. Microtubules are involved in maintaining the cell shape and serve as tracks for axonal transport.
