General Information
| Biological Significance | TTG crosslinks proteins between an e-amino group of a lysine residue and a ?-carboxamide group of glutamine residue, creating an inter- or intramolecular bond that is highly resistant to proteolysis (protein degradation). |
|---|---|
| Expression | tTG is highly expressed in acute lymphoblastic T-cell leukemia. Tissue and Cell Localization: tTG is found in the nucleus of most mammalian cells, it is expressed mainly in the central nervous. Low level of expression in other tissues including thymus. |
| Implications in Disease | A chromosomal aberration involving tTG may be a cause of a form of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Defects in tTG expression have also been associated with cd3epsilon deficiency and Celiac Disease, an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine that occurs in genetically predisposed people of all ages from middle infancy onward. |
| Post-Translational Modifications | Does not undergo any major post-translational modifications. |
